Literature Text
the crescent moons bitten into my palms
break apart the hard worn lines written
there. a fortune teller told me
it was just a matter of time before my
universe crashed in on itself
and my stars ripped themselves apart.
your gray-sky-eyes swallowed me whole
and i fell down, down, down
while your piano key fingers played
my melody one last time.

Literature
Lydia
{i wrote this for the fifth-grader who told me once my hair looked like ramen noodles.}
1.
i felt bad that i had forgotten for awhile how much she believes that the universe needs to be
smaller
in order for the stars to be closer, even though
sometimes
she forgets how big she is.
2.
Lydia is like holding a butterfly, and she moves like a wish does
through a dandelion’s fur
when i first met her i felt inadequately colored
and when i first told her my name was Cady, she yelled at me for spelling it wrong.
Lydia used to be one of those gangly, weightless nine-year-olds, always spindly and stringy
against the onslaught of leg forests

Literature
voidfriend
i.
her eyes
never land.
a scape claimed
no matter how sharp
her intake,
or the orbits
aligned by her will,
or the scope
of the aperture
filled.
lips fueled
and begging
to be ignited.
ii.
she can't fight it.
cracks in the visor
and pressure leaks.
a void
asking her hand
and her peace
as the tip
of her tongue
starts to freeze.
spidered sight
and face
like a shard
divided.
iii.
"if i have to be breathless,"
she finally states,
"i'd prefer it to be by the trident."
